I love South Dakota . . . speed limit is 75, you can smoke in bars, and the scenery is amazing. I never would have thunk it! Of course the wind blows like crazy - now I understand "dust bowl" without the dust. But I can imagine what drought would do.

I finally got to the Rumbolz Platz B&B south of Mitchell, SD. It was nice to finally meet Ila after corresponding with her via email for the last four months. Pig got to spend some time on the farm and visit his bothers and sisters. Of course, I had to check out the famous Corn Palace; a building decorated every year with a new theme in corn. The palace in over 100 years old and the pictures from past palaces were amazing.

Badlands - great in the Spring. What I don't understand is how anyone could come to visit in the Summer. It's hot now, it must be miserable then! Now, the hills and valleys are green, birds are going nuts warbling and calling, desert flowers are everywhere but you must get out of your car to see them. In the evening, the animals really come out, prairie dogs, coyotes, big horn sheep, rabbits, chipmunks, to name a few that I saw.

I met some nice people traveling around the Badlands, a couple of ladies came up to me and said that they'd seen me the day before at the Corn Palace in Mitchell - true enough.

Wall, SD - the famous Wall Drug. Pulled up in front and it looked like a huge horrendous tourist trap. I didn't even go in. Instead, I crossed the street and went into the Cactus Saloon and had my first Moose Drool, a really good Montana brown ale. Chatted to the local guys - all young and cute. The bartender was recently back from Iraq and currently on disability having taken shrapnel in his back and legs.

Tomorrow is the Black Hills and Mt. Rushmore . . .
