What a difference a week makes. A week ago tonight, I was just getting into Toronto after slugging my way through a snow/sleet/rain and ice storm from Montreal. Seven hours of very tense driving. Prior to leaving, I had to dig my car out of a foot of wet snow and slush - laugh it up, but I sure wasn't. I was using some very course words about Canada.

The weather didn't start getting nice again until Wed., when I saw the sun for the first time in a week. I was beginning to believe that Toronto never saw sun, as the last time I was here four years ago, it was gray and overcast then too. However, I put the gray time to good use. I checked out numerous Goodwills in Toronto, especially when I found out that Wed. is half price day. I got a few things, since I was tired of my clothes. I also went with John to the rag factory. I was blown over. John owns a vintage clothing store and goes to the rag factory's to hunt for stuff for the store. This is the way it works. The Goodwills, Salvation Army's etc. of the world get more donations then they can handle, so they sell the excess to the rag factory's. There the clothing, boots, shoes, belts, etc. are sorted, compressed into bundles by like, weighed and then get put on pallets to be shipped to places like Africa. It was totally overwhelming, even for me. Because woolens and coats aren't needed in Africa, they could be bought for $1, but I couldn't face the 10' high piles; I just didn't even know where to start. I gave up and left John and his crew there and went to the Goodwill's instead - much more manageable.

John and Jenny then convinced me I should stay through the weekend and go to their cottage on a lake in Gravenhurst. After a week of crappy weather, how could I say no to the opportunity for sunny weather on a lake. So, now I'm a few days behind schedule - c'est la vie!

To be continued in the next entry . . .
