I'm in Fort Stockton without Wireless connection so will up load this as soon as I can find it. I'm headed to Austin, TX today to meet up with Lisa V. and Matt H. tomorrow.

A few observations so far:
The National Parks Pass is a must! It costs $80 per year but I /we would have paid $123 so far without it. You can take 3 others with you on your card.
Go in the off season (before May and after Sept.). In some places you have the park/monument to yourself and you don't have to deal with being herded like cattle on shuttle buses to tour the park.
Carlsbad Caverns was packed in comparison to other parks I've been to - spring break and the families were in abundance. Of course, I started getting that grimace on my face thinking I was going to have to deal with a bunch of screaming and running kids. But no! The ranger gave everyone a lecture that any of the above would banish him or her from the park. Lo and behold the kids behaved and were really good. It was amazing! Now, how come parents can't rein control over their kids in public like that all the time?
New Mexico - I always thought N.M was a boring and ugly state - NOT SO! Since I've only taken only the 10 I've missed most of what is a really pretty state. Part of my trip's mission is to take interstates as little as possible. I don't know who said it, but there's a quote that goes something along lines of "interstates are great if you don't want to see anything."

The Little Guy suffered his first injury. A piece of plastic was knocked loose from the front bumper on Friday night (yes MJF - you know what happened!) and started hanging down and I could hear something scraping. However, I fixed the problem for now with DUCT tape that I got from fellow travelers. I'll have to wait until Sarasota to get to the Toyota dealership.

Kids & parks
The kid thing worked I think because they are out of their element, and MAYBE, because they think this dude with the hat means it... they know by now that when mom or dad threaten they won't follow through. The pass is great, in 23 years, when you are 62, you can get the 'America the Beautiful' national park pass, only $10.00 and it does not expire. It also allows up to 3 other people in the car enter regardless of their ages for free. We are going to Joshua Tree this weekend with ther Airstream Club on our $10.00 pass. Keep havin' fun !!!
Rick
