Where I stayed
House of Another Tyme Bed and Breakfast
Then, I drove to Arroyo Grande, a few hours away. It was a lovely drive, with views of the ocean before turning inland past wineries and through hills planted with grapes.
Arroyo Grande is near a sand dunes park, where people can drive their cars on the beach, which was weird. I did not drive the Cruiser on to the beach, as there was a perfectly good parking lot nearby.
You can also walk into the dunes - which I remember never being allowed to do on the East Coast.
I ended the day by watching the sunset at another beach.
My drive to the House of Another Tyme Bed and Breakfast http://www.anothertymebnb.net/ in Arroyo Grande, where I had reservations for the night, was made more complicated by a Christmas parade. (Nearly every town I visited had a Christmas parade while I was there, often causing traffic problems.) After finally making it to the Bed and Breakfast (with a good deal of assistance from the very helpful proprietors), I walked to the little downtown area in Arroyo Grande, for dinner and wine tasting. There are basically wine tasting places on every corner in California. It is like Starbucks. The very nice proprietors of Phantom Rivers Winery in Arroyo Grande stayed open late for me and poured me lots of extra wine. http://www.phantomrivers.com/phantomrivers/index.jsp
