We arrived in Hanoi City at around 5:30am after the uneventful 13 hour bus trip. We were dumped outside our 'hotel', which looked dead to the world. We banged on the steel shutters until lights and movement signalled this was the right place. Once inside however we were told we didn't have a room until mid-day. WHAT!?!?! This hotel was owned by the same lady who owned our hotel in Hue so we had arranged a special rate... seems the special rate meant we were litteraly out in the cold for a while though. Luckily, at 10am a room was freed up so we went to bed and slept til 5.
We got up, had some dinner and went for a long walk around Hanoi. First impressions were really good. Like most capital cities, Hanoi has a special atomoshere to it, different to we've experienced elsewhere in Nam. The weather may also add to this; where it was 35 down in HCMC, it's only around 15 here so jumpers are back in action!
