We jumped on a train to Florence after a bit of a sleep in arriving a few hours later. As we were aimlessly wandering out of the station a guy with a cigar hanging out of his mouth approached us asking if we needed a place to stay. Replying with a "Yes!" he showed us a business card, gave us a reasonable price then drove us to his apartment five minutes away in the heart of Florence. It was a huge room with our own bathroom all very clean and tidy. An absolute bargain for the offered price. The guy even gave us a map and circled all the relevant tourist points and told us how long it would take to walk there. He was pretty cool - the cigar hadn't moved a bit and still wasn't lit.

From our room we could walk to the San Marco Square where we checked out a church currently undergoing some restoration work. We were actually looking for the famous Statue of David by Michelangelo but stumbled into the church by mistake. As there was a priest was sitting by the door we felt we should look around and admire the place rather than turn on our heal and walk out again for fear of offending him. Whilst wandering Megan saw what looked like a dead body out the corner of her eye. On closer inspection it was in fact a previous priest, embalmed and in a big glass box for all to see. He was really wrinkly and shriveled up and we were quite surprised to say the least by his presence on the alter.

Not able to find the statue we instead decided to go and buy our onward tickets in preparation for the following day as we had planned to travel to Pisa to see it's famous Leaning Tower. Along the way we found a market and sampled the local Gelatto. Yummy!
