We wanted to visit the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp as we were in the nearby town of Krakow. The sites are morbidly interesting, Auschwitz being very touristy and more of a museum whereas Birkenau is huge. It is amazing and to some extent incomprehensible the scale of the atrocity that occurred here.

There isn't much you can say about visiting a concentration camp where so many people from different background were put to death, so please look at the photos and make your own judgment.

Kind of fittingly it rained most of the time we were at Birkenau.
