After we left Judy and David's house in Bearsden (again thank you both for your kind hospitality) we decided as we didn't have time to look around Glasgow we would drive through the town centre then head north. That was a bad idea! Trying to find our way through Glasgow, the street layout seemingly designed by the local kindergarten class, there are so many one way streets that you can't get out (or even through). Eventually after many an argument (mostly at the two back seat drivers who didn't have a map but felt obliged to give their two cents worth anyway) we made it out of the centre and managed to find our way around the city.

Though an interesting thing did occur while we were lost, trying to get out of Glasgow. It's said everyone has an identical twin somewhere in the world and today we found Megan's cousin, Hayley, on the streets of Glasgow. Driving around trying to find our way out of the city, through all the one way streets that kept taking us the wrong way, we pulled up at a set of lights. For no reason we both looked at the car beside us and then to each other with dropped jaws. In the back seat of the car was a girl about 16 years old absolutely identical to Hayley! She had the same facial features, clothing style and colour of her hair. If we weren't halfway around the world we would have been calling out Hayley's name expecting her to recognise us. We didn't take a photo as I'm sure taking random photos of strangers is not acceptable no matter how much they look like someone you know. Hayley are you secretly here in Europe?

On the way towards Fort William we stopped for a break at Loch Lomond which is a massive expanse of water, dotted with hundreds of little islands. Although the water was freezing and the air temperature about 20 degrees Celsius, people were dressed in their summer best and braving frostbite for a swim. Brave or crazy we really weren't sure and decided to pass on the option of a swim.

In the early afternoon we made it to Fort William and splurged on rooms at the Clan McDuff Hotel for the night. Glenys and David were lucky, enjoying a fantastic view over the Loch from their balcony. As the sun set we tucked into our fish and chips for dinner.
