We set the alarm and got up early at 5AM to see the Theemidhi Fire Walking Festival being held at the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore (located in China Town). It was a struggle to get out of bed and walk through the crowds of people attending and participating in the festival. We had to leave our shoes outside with the thousands of other pairs already outside. Some of the men participating in the fire walking were screaming in pain or walking around pretty gingerly afterwards. Eventually we'd had enough of the new sights and sounds so we headed back to the hotel and back to bed.

We then packed up, checked out and got a cab to Queen St to get a Yellow cab across the border into Malaysia. We completed all the customs forms again and went through the Woodlands Checkpoint. Shopping in Johor Bahru was interesting and we picked up some dodgey DVDs. We also got a cab down to Danga Bay but as it's Rammadan the place was deserted. With no taxi's in site we decided to walk back to the main part of town. It was a very very long walk in 32 degree heat. We eventually got a taxi and headed back across into Singapore. Picked up our gear and moved into the backpackers in China Town. After a shower we felt great, did some washing and figured we'd better update our web blog.

Tonight we're off to a hawker market for some more lovely local food.

Hiking in the heat
Good to see you are in training and doing some long walks in the heat. The stronger you get, the lighter your packs will be !!

What did the Singapore Slings taste like?

YAY!!!
I was so excited when i logged on to the computer at work (its 0530hrs) during night duty, on the off chance you had updated your travel diary. YAY!!!!

Must have been hard to go from your nice hotel to the backpackers. Don't know how you can get rid of anything from your packs as you didnt have much in them to start..............i dont think you could get by with less than three pairs of jocks!! Ha ha ha ha!

Keep having fun and remember when you are on holidays it is never NOT a decent hour for an alcoholic beverage!!

Lots of love from Aim xxxx

EXCITING!!
Hi to you both. I'm on night duty too and Amy rang me to tell me to look at your blog...she said you had bumped into someone interesting but wouldn't tell me who. How interesting that you met the Bird on your travels...who would have thought??
Glad to hear you are having fun. Hope you managed to find your shoes amongst all the others...Would have been a LONG walk home if they had been nicked. haha.
Keep updating. love Carlie xo

Bon appetit
Great to hear you are getting into the swing of sipping cocktails and chowing down on good food, sounds like you need all the sustenance you can get for walking in the heat.
Love reading the updates, keep on keeping on.

Love Megan XOXO
