I reached Capitol Reef as the Sun began to paint the rocks with a warm evening glow. The centrepiece of Capitol Reef National Park is a 70 mile long reef, probably best viewed from the air or from a good vantage point. From the ground however, a short drive along the reef gave some extent of the scale of the reef but aesthetically I felt there was nothing really outstanding of the park. Therefore, before the sun set, I headed off in search of accommodation and settled in a motel in the sleepy little town of Green River.
