Shanghai is a big city, best to do what you like best here, shopping or eating. We liked the xiao long bao - fantastic!

We had a half day tour of Shanghai. It is like many other big metropolitan cities, with a Chinese flavour. We trekked through the usual tourist route: Yu gardens (would be peaceful without hordes of tourists), walk along the bund (great contrast of Puxi and Pudong of the old versus new skylines), Jin Mao tower for a bird's eye view of the city (impressively big) and cruise on the river (a relaxing view of the cityscape).

We mucked around in the city. Went to Xitiandi – a very cool little walking street in the old French quarters. It is full of trendy little stores, cafés and restaurants.

The highlight in Shanghai was the Xiao long bao (little dumplings filled with soup) at Din Tai Fung (the Xitiandi branch). The service was excellent and friendly and the food divine. We had crab, chicken and truffle, scallop and vegetables. Fantastic – if you are in Shanghai go to this place! But don’t go too late as the queue gets pretty long.
