So apparently there are storms in Beijing...

After a pretty easy flight to Narita, Japan (Barring the comatose couple I had to climb over every time I needed the restroom -- or more wine -- and the one really snarly flight attendant) I deplaned and scanned the time tables to see where the gate the Beijing was.  Instead of the usual "on time" notice, the words next to my flight said "undetermined" in big, bold, capital red letters... hmmm

I found an agent at the desk and asked what was happening.  Then I proceeded to watch her type into the computer, looked shocked, call over another agent and discuss in hushed, but rapid tones--looking surprised and anxious...she told me to wait.

Turns out no one's going to Beijing from Narita tonight (even though when I checked my flight status on delta.com, it said my flight had taken off.)  The Delta staff shuffled us all out the door, through immigration and customs and put us on a bus to a nearby hotel where they fed us, gave us rooms to stay and told us to be ready for pickup at 5 am.

It's like being stuck overnight in Jamaica, Queens if I didn't know New York--I know Tokyo is so close and so cool, but all I can do is sit here and think about it.
Ah, Beijing tomorrow...hopefully I'll get some good sightseeing in then.
For now, at least I got a temporary Japanese visa in my passport!  An interesting fact, for those of you who don't know, about Japanese toilets--they have a dial on the side--not the flusher--that releases a hidden spigot of fast spraying water.  Who knew? When I turned around to look for the handle, I thought I found it, but instead I pressed the douche...even worse, because I was facing the toilet, the spigot that came flying out of hiding sprayed me square in the face.
Ugh.  Well, i guess you live and learn...
