1/9 big town - shigatse
2:shigatse monasteries, kora
31/8 fri
from somewhere to truck stop.
1 sep sat
arrive in shigatse not too late, only 63km form truck-stop town. Tra la pass was as easy as its name suggests. Slightly lost looking for hotel with lonely planet map. Found TanZin hotel eventually. and p. pursuaded me to take a smart, expensive double rather than shared dorm- by offering a 10kwai subsidy. go to lp recommended 'tashi' restaurant, where are surrounded by od, chattering tour groups. decent food, yak steak, again, except p.'s pizza which made hime feel distinctly queezy.
2 sep sun
after breakfast was already eleeven oclock. We went to the monastery complex and admired some very beautiful tibetan architecture. one temple with giant gold gilded statue. tomb of 10th panchem lama. with massive gold chorten with little man in rainbow cove at top. walk back to hotel for sunglasses. courtyard with prayer pole clad in yak fur. tobe of all the panchem lamas. walk pretty little kora with traditional tibetan paintings on rocks beside the path and great views of monastery, castle and town.
