I only stayed one night in Amman, and left early in the morning, so it would be unfair to pass judgement based on so little evidence. Suffice to say that I wandered to the 'downtown' in the evening to see what was there, and found nothing. I felt no great remorse having to leave so soon after arriving. Shabby cars and shabby buildings seemed to characterise the place, the 'Sunrise' hotel where I stayed epitomising the trend. I have since met people who spent more time there, who claimed that after trying hard to like the place, they eventually did. Had to try very hard though.
