Yesterday I went to the main market area in Lima with Renée, a french Canadian lady from my office. There were four of us in total and I'm told never to come here alone as it is rather dodgy. We went to the most amazing restaurant for breakfast, called Tanta. This is by far the best food that I have tasted in Lima so far. I was in heaven after 3 weeks of bread, cheese and tomatoes.
We then headed into Gamarra, which was in complete contrast to the restaurant. It was a very typical set up with streets filled with shops and people standing on the streets holding various items of clothing. I hang my head in shame when I say that I contributed to the sweat shops of Lima by making a few purchases. Surprisingly, the quality of many of the materials were superb and 100% Peruvian cotton. As it's so cold here now I invested in a long sleeved t-shirt and a jacket with a fleece lining - this was 26 soles (divide that by 5.8 to get the price in pounds!!!) I didn't dare look at any trousers as there is no way any of them would go over these thighs - a distinct disadvantage of playing gaelic football. Hopefully the walk into work everyday will slim them down.
Hoping to join the gym later today (there's a Golds Gym here too) and having my first spanish lesson at home tomorrow night. Had to phone the tutor to make the arrangements over the phone last Thursday in spanish. It was good that she didn't try to help me out by speaking in english. It should be interesting.
Well guys, that's all from me for now. Let me know about your news, gossip etc.
Speak soon!
