We headed East from Olympia and joined the beautiful Cascade Loop scenic drive.  We felt we just had to stop at Leavenworth, a Bavarian looky-likey town and have goulash for lunch.  Back up to Lake Chelan which was a bit disappointing and then down to Ellensburg and another Super8 motel for the night.  We were really racking up the miles here!  We set off for Mount Ranier the next day in lovely sunshine and had great views of the mountain.  We shot down I5 and by-passed Portland to head down the Columbia river gorge, via Multmonah Falls and spectacular views over the river.  We stayed in Hood River for a night, which is a cool, mountain-biking, wind-surfing centre.
