Finally here!

We're staying at Fareham now with Liz's wonderful Uncle and Aunty. At the end of the week we start our Top-Deck tour around Europe, in between we hope to explore around here where Liz was born. I get the feeling however that a few job interviews are going to get in the way for me.

On our first day we decided to go for just an explore around the local Fareham shopping center. The day before we were in Kuala Lumpur's 35 degree heat, today it was 8 degrees - I got many strange looks from the locals as I was walking around in just a t-shirt. By the time I reached the mall I couldn't even feel my hands!

One of the first things I have noticed about this place is that everyone looks the same! Back home I guess even the NZ Europeans have been mixed up from immigrants from all over the world, we don't really have the same noticable ethnic differences. I find it really weird here.

In the evening we had our first real british pub experience complete with a lovely fireplace burning away in the middle of the building (and I thought it was supposed to be be nearly summer here).

The next day we took the train into Portsmouth and went for an explore. Things seem to be about as expensive as back home but there is definatley a much bigger range on offer. I had a couple of job phone interviews while we were there which ate into our time - looks like I'm going to have to go up to meet some people face-to-face this week. Oh well, at least I'm ready with my tailored suit from Vietnam and hopefully, if I can nail a job it means we can keep travelling a few weeks extra.

But anyway. Portsmouth yay!

It's a nice seaside town. The streets are really pretty and the people are genuinely friendly - it's great not being hassled every two minutes for a change. We walked along the waterfront to South Sea past the Spinnaker tower, a lovely old church and a some historic old sites. Most impressive of all though was the Freakin Hovercraft!!!!! So exciting - must come back and take a trip to the Isle of Wight on it.

Got a little lost on the way back but had a perfect moment just outside the central square in Portsmouth. I really like this place but can't quite put my finger on why. Even the weather doesn't really bother me.

Tomorrow we're off to London!
