Liz and I fell in love with Vietnam again over the past couple of days. All it took was the chance to recharge our batteries: hot showers, clean clothes, decent coffee – I’m all good now.

On day one here we spent most of our time on the beach. Liz then got some pampering with an awesomely cheap spa treatment and I went for a leisurely bike ride around the outskirts of the town.

That night we had the best meal we have had on our travels yet.  Vietnamese food is pretty bland when prepared by an average cook but is absolutely amazing when made properly – it is simple and fresh, with just a hint of spice (as opposed to Malaysian which can burn your face off at times).
After dinner we hung out by the river which has a very nice relaxed atmosphere, despite all the tourists.

On the second day we had some tailored suits made – which seems to be the thing to do in Hoi An. There are tailor shops everywhere. We picked the number one ranked one on TravelAdvisor but still only paid about $350 USD for two full sets.

Hoi An has been a very nice rest stop. Hopefully we will have the chance to come back here for a holiday someday. Tonight we are off to Nha Trang then start a three day motorbike tour around the Central Highlands. Can’t wait! Doing all the touristy stuff has been fun but I am now very eager to get off the beaten track and mix with the locals.
