The morning started off early since dogs and cats must be taken to boarding. And of course it decided to rain this morning, and not just a little shower but a hideous downpour. Was this really the way I had anticipated my trip of a lifetime to Peru to begin?

No it was not but, the universe had other plans for my adventure. So off I go into the rain with the animals to the vets. Then back home to finish getting everything together - then you have it all packed and suddenly there is this nagging voice in the back of your mind, saying quietly at first "you forgot something" and the more you go over it in you mind the more the fear builds....and the louder that voice gets. Then you reach a point that you tell yourself "oh, it is not like I am going to a third world country and won't be able to pick up whatever I may have forgotten." Right, this is what I am telling myself and I calm down. But out of the blue, that voice screams at you, "excuse me, but you are going to a third world country girl." But by now our traveling companions have arrived. Time to leave for the airport to catch the plane to Mexico City, via Aero Mexico. So I tell myself, it will be fine. Peru is not a really deep third world country and I will find whatever I need with out any problems. Time to start the adventure.

We arrive at the airport to find out that our flight schedule had been dramatically altered. We were to arrive Mexico City and have a three hour layover before we caught the flight to Lima, Peru. But NO - that was not meant to be we were told we now had only one hour to make our connection. Now normally when the connection is in the same terminal and supposedly only a few gates down that would not be a problem. But no, not today....today we are told by Aero Mexico that we would in all probability miss the connection and that the midnight flight was full and so was the 6:30 am tomorrow. Why would we miss the flight we ask, we are flying first class and our bags are checked through to Lima. Well we are told that we would have to pass through not only immigration but also customs. Nothing can be done about it and they were not willing in any way to assist us with this issue. So we all sit down and breath and say whatever is meant to be will be. It will all work out. After a quick little snack off we go to the gate. As Fate would have it there is a high level supervisor at our gate. We have a short discussion with him, stating our plight and that we need a wheelchair at the gate in Mexico City. He was a very nice man and says, "Don't worry, I will call my peer in Mexico City and we will make sure you are taken care of. We are all now breathing easier thinking that the day is picking up. We board the little plane on the flight line via bus transport. We find out American has cancelled a number of flights due to weather and there are a number of American passengers on board. Still we are thinking positive, until 20 minutes later we have still not taken off and it no longer matters because the flight is 2 hours 15 mins and our connection will have already left.

Finally we get in the air, we are on our way, late but moving forward. The pilot is trying to makeup lost time but we have al resigned ourselves to the fact we will be making alternate plans when we arrive. So once again all is well and we let the universe direct us. When we land We are all looking at our watches thinking 40 minutes to get off the plan, collect our luggage, process through security, immigrations, and customs, then back through security to the gate to board.... 40 minutes we will never make it. As we exit the plane there are two young men waiting wheelchair and escort. They rushed us with the speed of light through the airport terminal, quickie immigrations and custom pass through onto a waiting plane. WOW!!!!

Aero Mexico - Mexico City just earned huge cudo's from me. Amazing customer service.

So we are on our plane to Lima, leaving on time. Thrilled, excited and exhausted! Wonderful dinner on board and back to anticipation of arrival in Lima, Peru. We arrive and are greeted with escort and wheelchair again. Off to immigrations, we breeze through, off to pick up luggage..........oh no....half our party has luggage and half are no shows. So back to supervisors and filling out missing luggage forms and power of attorney, etc..... Luggage located and will arrive at 5:00 am and they will deliver to the hotel. Thank god! Driver picks us all up and we discover what the next 2 weeks of driving in Peru will be like.... oh my god!!!  We arrive at the Miraflores Park Hotel, ocean view at 2:15 am.

Oh my god what a day, but we are here!!!! Comfortable bed, good night sleep, luggage returned, and we will be ready for our first real day of adventure in Peru.....

The road through Peru begins tomorrow and hopefully it will be less bumpy than the road to Peru.......
