Landed in Pakse in pouring rain. Were met of the plane on the runway with an umbrella each - very efficient! Tour of the Bolaven plateau today - 1500m high and very lush, verdant scenery surrounded by mountains apparently (they were hiding under the mist). Lots of coffee and tea plantations and small villages. We stopped at one of the villages to look around. All the houses are built on stilts, the animals live underneath, the people on top. The paths were all ankle deep in mud but this didn't stop the children playing in it or the pigs wallowing in it. The houses are all built round a sacrificial altar where they sacrifice buffalo to give thanks for the harvest. Even though the houses were allmade of woven bamboo with thatched roofs they each had a sattelite dish and TV - got to get their priorities right!

Stopped at a coffee plantation for lunch - it had beautiful gardens - lots of plants which you can see in greenhouses back home growing in the wild and the most enormous butterflies.

Stopped at several waterfalls during the day - however we couldn't go to the main one we were meant to go to - the highest waterall in SE Asia as the road had been washed away with the floods. However our hotel was built right next to (and in some cases right over) one - Tad Lo. Very beatiful lush setting with three elephants wandering around the grounds and having a bath in a pool almost outside our bungalow.
