The temperature outside when we woke up this morning was 51 degrees…60 inside! Naturally, since it is all about me, I didn't get up until the other party on this adventure turned the furnace on and warmed the place up! The morning itself was a 10 on a scale of 10—not a cloud in the sky and nice brisk temps.

Today was a get from Point A to Point B kind of day with no tour spots on the agenda, so nothing really exciting happened. We left camp at 9:10, stopping fairly quickly for gasoline which was $3.86/gallon. From Standing Stone we headed out on the Central Adirondack Scenic Byway to travel across the southern end of Adirondack State Park. (Are you happy with us now Oldcat??) Later we changed to the Southern Adirondack Trail as we wended our way through small villages, past natural lakes (not used to that in Tennessee), and rocky rivers. There were, however, NO McDonald’s!!! Unfortunately, we have discovered to our chagrin that we have become addicted to their Chocolate Chip Frappes! Oh the weakness of the flesh! The shame of it all!! At any rate, we struggled onward and did enjoy our drive today very much even though we remained frapee-less!

We crossed the Hudson River (quite narrow at this point) in The Glen, NY at 12:45. I am sorry I don’t have any more or any better pictures than I do today. There were VERY few (I saw one!) places to pull over…especially in a motor home…to take a picture. Therefore, most were taken out of Mufasa’s window on the fly as it were.

We arrived in Lake George at 1:15. The temperature was a very comfortable 71 degrees and the humidity is very low. As we were driving up State 9 to a campground that we thought we would try to get a space in, we passed a small campground that lies behind the Whippoorwill Motel that looked like just what we needed for the next two nights and pulled in there at 1:40. We are level, good electric (I know you have become accustomed to those two things rating high on our list of "wanna haves".) It isn’t a fancy place but seems to be well maintained. The sites are grassy and quite large. Another big plus is that it is on the town trolley line and so we can catch that in front of the motel and get to town without unhooking, driving, and then spending time finding a parking spot! We will be here for two nights so that we will have time to go back into Lake George and do the tourist thing, and also so that we won’t be stressed out trying to find a spot for tomorrow night on a summer weekend…too much aggravation in that scenario! Another point is that we have been on the road for several days and we think it is good mental health to slow down and enjoy the unexpected moments a little more completely (that is what you told us to do, isn’t it Pat M.?)

We drove a whopping 133 miles today.

Love that area. First time traveled back from there in huge snowstorm. Our vw wd not go up hill on Vt side of road and had to travel 60 miles back and cross over to NY. Fun times in a VW bug. 1969.

Mom,
Now I need to know how you got all of your pictures at the bottom of your blog page. I want to be able to do that next time. I know my blog is not up to what you are doing but I wanted to try it. =) We love you! Sheeba sends a lick to both of you.

Ahhh, now you are where God has his summer home. The ADK National Park is the best. Now if you go just a few miles north you will come to Schroon Lake which is where I have spent many a summer. Go up on 9 and you will go thru Warrensburg and look for Oscar's Smoke House (big pig outside). It is not a BBQ joint but rather one of the last true smoked meat stores. Bacon is scrumptious. If you go to Schroon Lake take the East Shore Drive and go to the Town of Adirondack and visit the General Store. If you get there in the morning (before noon) they serve a fabulous pancake breakfast with that good Maple Syrup Betty was referring to. On East Shore Drive you will pass a spot called "Sand Point Beach". That is where I have stayed for over 60 years and I am sure one of the cabins there is God's. Many, MANY happy memories. I might be up there again this year for the Labor Day celebration. Right across from the entrance is Rick Yager’s Cabin and if you see anyone out there role down the window and tell them I said Hi! :-)  Damn I wish I was with you!!

oldcat...if you keep your suggestions up, we won't be home until Christmas! John is checking the map and we will try to do at least part of your wish list. Sounds like you DEFINITELY need to get up here over Labor Day. I diagnose a true case of homesickness!! Have a great day.
