Where I stayed

Okay, so we left Germany behind us and stood around in the Alps trying not to freeze our asses off while we hitched a ride. It was looking pretty bleak at the start and it was starting to get a little dark (and very cold) when a cool guy who skis for ski videos picked us up and took us a little way further and dropped us at a rest stop which actually still had some sunlight. Small improvement but not too much. Anyway the sun was about to set for the second time that day when we got picked up by a great woman named Tanja. She took us out of Austria and into Lichtenstein where we got our little stamp and admired the tiny little country for all of about 10 minutes. Then we were off into Switzerland heading towards Zurich. Tanja was incredibly cool enough to ask us to stay the night at her place and have a little breakfast in the morning before she took off to work. She is planning on heading towards Eastern Europe sometime in the near future so we gave her our guide book for that area, significantly lightening our load. Oh yeah, so we took a train out of Zurich down to a place called Goldau and we were going to hitchhike out of there. We were going to go to the onramp and head on out, no problem right? Well the next onramp ended up being about 20 kilometers down the road around a frozen lake and through about four small villages. This turned out to be a very long walk during which not one single Swiss person even slowed down for us. Anyway, we eventually got to the onramp and got a ride (from an Italian, not a Swiss) all the way into Italy! Yeah for us. The great thing about Italy is that the trains are very cheap, so we took a train into Milano to find out that we didn't really like the place all that much and that it would be far more interesting to not sleep at all and head to Pisa. So that of course is what we did. We headed South and took some looks at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The tower is great, it is amazing really but it is funny to see that the area around the tower is kinda dirty and rundown whereas the tower is clean and beautiful. I guess that is why they never show the local area around the tower in the postcards huh? Okay so after that we ventured to Rome and got a nice little room and took a nap and then ventured out to look at the ruins, the colloseum, forum, and various other little places. We searched and searched for the monastery of the cappupichian friars to see all the bones inside, however I think they hid it from me because it was one of the sights I was really excited to see. Okay, five minutes left on here. After that we zoomed across Italy to Brindisi to catch a ferry to Corfu. It was a long train ride, followed by a very long ferry ride. It was quite worth it however, we are now at the Pink Palace which is great and I was wading in the Mediteranean Sea in shorts and a T-shirt which I definately could not have down a week earlier in the mountains of Bavaria. This evening we will be catching a ferry back to the mainland and then heading to Athens. I am hoping it will all go as planned (It never seems to though) Till then.

Your personal deity,

Brian
