So we had left Paris and made it to Garmisch in the early hours of the morning, or late hours of the evening if you are not a morning person. We ended up at a nice hotel for two days and then found a great little bed and breakfast which we stayed at for one week. During this week our only goal was to become employed or end up having to go home, return to college and get career type jobs. Our book, Work your way around the world, said that getting a job in Garmisch was really easy and you could walk in with your backpack and AFRC would be more than happy to hire you. This was the case two years ago, nowadays the German government has changed regulations so that it is now forbidden for AFRC to hire vacationing US citizens. AFRC must now hire all employees directly from the states. Luckily though AAFES, also part of the department of defense, has not been afflicted by the same backpacker unfriendly laws. We applied to be cashiers, were told we were hired that day but couldn't work until our background checks came through. So two days later Tamara started as a cashier and I was transformed into a warehouse worker. During the next week Tamara got housing from the government, about $60 a month, and I became homeless. Actually I wasn't homeless I just stayed in the housing, but technically I shouldn't have been there until a mens room space opened up for me. Now this is a bit morbid I suppose but it only took one of our housemates dying for me to get a room. So now I have housing also, even though I rarely am in my room. My roommate is happy about that because he basically has a double room to himself now. This happened around the start of November. Back to October though, Halloween was celebrated with a bunch on new coworkers, friends, housemates at a house that had been a morgue during World War II. This was an incredibly cool party with Riff Raff (Rocky Horror Picture Show) as host serving seemingly endless shots of schnapps. This party was also the first near loss of my super important Jack Skellyton beany. So anyway now on to November I suppose. November was a fairly quick month of work, drinking, and sleep. Thanksgiving was celebrated with about 20 of us housefolk making an incredibly large Thanksgiving dinner and drinking a whole lot. Quite a lot of fun. December has also gone very very fast, and for Christmas Tamara got me a new backpack!! It is really nice and has one of those air cooling zones so you don't get a really sweaty nasty back. Sadly in December our good friends Christy and Andy went back to the states, Jacksonville, Florida of all places. I'm sure they will decide that Florida isn't the cool place to be and will head to northwest Washington. Ole! Now we get to New years which was a blast, we went down to the Local Cure and listened to some great music played by some of our housemates and then about a half hour to midnight we headed down to the Marianplatz and watched tons of fireworks and drank champagne until around half past. Then we were off to the Warstiner to dance and drink until around two and then we headed to bed because both of us are working today. I am working right now hehe. So that is what has been going on. I am now going to say hi to all the people I work with, live with, generally hang out with, etc so it could get boring for a lot of you now. Hi all, Christy, Andy, Amber, Livia, Heidie, Christine, Damaris, Victoria, Rhue, Jamie, Ron, Chris, Greg, Lenny, Zac, Spike my roommate, Buck, Eric, Milissa, Scott, Steffie x 2, Desi, uhmmm and others who I know I have missed. Anyway, I am headin back to work now.
