A cloud forest is a rare, cool and extremely moist ecosystem located in the moutainous regions of this part of the world. The biodiversity is reportedly stellar, but the lush vegetation ensures that you donīt actually see any wildlife. The forest appears as a green wall and an endless struggle for light. Large trees grow out of the soil - I assume - itīs impossible to actually see the forest floor; smaller trees grow out of the large trees. Vines curl around them both. Ferns grow out of vines. Mosses grow out of the ferns. And on and on we go.

The cloud forest is a haven for birdlife, including the so-called Resplendent Quetzal. This is considered the most beautiful bird in the Americas but heīs definitely not vain. Although I`ve been in many areas where it is `possible to see quetzals` Iīve yet to get a glimpse. But I can hear them; I can hear them up there among the layers of trees laughing at me. I can hear them in my sleep still laughing at me. Iīll get the damn Resplendent Quetzal yet....and isnīt a bit odd that they actually include the word Resplendent in the name of the bird? From now on I want everyone to call me Tall Simon.
