The 3 days and 2 nights we rafted down the Kaligandkai river were pleasant, nice views, good comany, relaxed atmosphere. But it was the wrong time of year for the river, and although there were a few good rapids, most of it was quite tame.
The campiste facitilies were also...basic. No toilet, let alone shower, and as we were camping on the beaches by the river, tents full of sand, and not waterproof when it rained! All part of the fun I guess.
So when we got back to Kathmandu we were a little unfullfilled in terms of rafting, and decided to go again, this time just for a day trip, on Nepals 'wildest river' the Bhote Kose. Although it was a long way on the bus (again, tiring of bus journeys) the river was spectacular, almost 3 hours of continuous big fun rapids. Due to what can only be described as imcompetant crew Dunc and I got to sit at the front, the hardest, wettest but most fun place to be.
We had about minute rest at one point and I explained to Dunc I was concerned about falling out. "No" he replied "with these foot holds I reckon it would be impossible to fall out"....it's just too predictable what happened at the next rapid, in he went! The only person to fall in all day. He was quickly picked up by the safety kyaker though, and back in the raft for the last big set of rapids with only minor cuts and bruises.
