Just as I ambout to wax lyrical about the amazing roads and transport systems in China, my bus takes a detour off of the highway and I am now on a road so bumpy I can barely type.  But in general it really is so easy to get around here, as long as you ae only going to biggish places, and they are on the tourist map that is!  I even got a free bottle of water with my bus ride today.  My 17 hour train ride from Guilin to Kunming was effortless and comfortable.  Each carriage has a hot water dispenser so everyone just takes along instant noodles as snacks.  They are like pot noodles, but actually made of food.  Todays journey is mostly being fuelled by iced tea, I was going to buy a snack at the service station, and my eyes lit up when I spied ’caramelised dates’ yum I thouht, before reading the byline ’donkey-hide gelatin flavoured’.  Perhaps I’ll just have another ice tea.
I am slowly making my way north west, and uphill, which means it is getting cooler which is a blessing.  Todays bus ride has brought me back into the foothills of the Himalaya and I am feeling nostalgic for Nepal.  True to the theme of this year it seems like there may be some difficulty getting a Russian visa in Beijing, so the plans may change yet again.  I’ll keep you posted.
