Port Douglas is one of our favourite places in the world. We were a bit worried about coming back in case it wasnt as nice as we remembered but it is still just as lovely. Its only an hours drive from Cairns (such a pretty drive with sea on one side and trees and mountains on the other) but completely different. Its a small town on the coast near the rainforest. Its quite upmarket but really relaxed so full of backpackers and campervans. Theres no chains but lots of restaurants/shops and bars and best of all its all walkable. We parked the car up and left it there for the four days. We've got a blue toyota corolla for the next 5 weeks.
We had an apartment so mixed up eating in and out as its quite pricy here. Most people are in PD for tours to the great barrier reef and cape tribulation. Thats why we were here last time but fell in love with PD and was determined we would return on this trip and just stay in town, relaxing. Our days here were wonderful but pretty similar.

Day 1
Started the day with the first of many sausage sandwiches.
Lasted about 30 mins on the boiling beach.
Got chatting to a woman in the laundry room who was from arsenal!
Rattle n hums for happy hour.
Alan cooked dinner tipsy (hes got to get used to pints again instead of 16/22 oz/bottles in the us and fiji.)

Day 2
Lasted another 30 mins on the boiling beach.
Practiced salsa in the pool (which we had all to ourselves.)
Happy hour and pizza at Rattle n Hums.
Walk to the marina at sunset.

Day 3
Sat on the headland in the shade of the palm trees (or so we thought, i burnt my back) reading and watching the boats heading off to the reef and a dolphin chasing the fish out of the water.
Chased 2 lizards out of the apartment that had been keeping us awake at night, chirping.
Rattle n hum for happy hour and pizza.
Back to the headland to catch the last of sunset. We saw bats flying around the trees above our heads.
Called mum to wish her a happy birthday, she was off to the cinema.

Day 4
Back to the headland to read and noticed a sign warning of crocs in the area!
Watched the sunset there and saw lots of bats flying about as it got dark.
Last pizza at rattle n hum.

I really hope we get to come back to PD. If we do come back I'd like it to be at a time of year when its less humid, ive never sweated so much! The only thing I wont miss is all the itchy bites we picked up. Repellant only slowed them down, nothing seemed to stop them!
