We left Lillefured this morning and drove by way of a beautiful mountain road to Egar.

It took a while to find the Senator Haz Hotel in a maze of narrow, one-way cobblestone streets.  After we did, we walked the g gatas.  Jerry and Art climbed the 112 stairs inside a very slender old minaret, then all of us went up to the castle ruins above our 320 yr old hotel.   One attraction was learning to shot a crossbow which Art decided to do. Never know when you might need to know this skill.

Later, Diane and Art tested two wines across the street from our hotel, one from the Dula vineyard, one from the Gl Tibor - both Egri Bikavers.  Then to dinner at the White Stag with all its mounted trophy heads.  The piano player was just terrific - so were the food and service.  Diane had cold peach soup topped with whipped cream, venison, and a Palenka Grundel flammbe (hazelnuts ground up and put inside large thin pancakes with chocolate over all of it with a liquor and set on fire).  Art had a wild boar steak with a cranberry sauce topping and a curded cheese dessert.  Judy had an exotic chicken dish, Jerry had wild boar stew.  The waiter brought all of us a glass of plum schnapps flavored with honey in little fluted glasses with a lid. Great day and evening.

Senator Haz was a lovely hotel. However, if room size is important, check the rooms first because some are quite small. Staff was very friendly.
