Today was the day we left Austria and entered Hungary. A friend of mine from GSK, Adam Zsinko (a true legend, as you will find out as you read on), lives in Budapest and kindly gave us a locals suggestion of a route down to Budapest, and a list of things to do and see whilst in the capital.

The first two days consisted of a trip down to the Lake Balaton district in Hungary's southwest. We started out from Vienna, and were soon heading across the border in Hungary, passing through the lovely little town of Sopron. Stunning architecture and style make this city one to certainly visit. We took the opportunity to take in some of the scenes, cash in on some local currency, the forint, and then proceeded down the road to Lake Balaton.

We arrived in Keszthely, on the edge of the lake around 3pm, and set up camp for the night. The campsite had a pool, so we all went for a swim, and then had a dinner and into bed... a fairly uneventful day, but one that was needed as the kids were starting to get a little tired.

The next day we had some big plans to follow Adam's advice and get out onto the shores of Lake Balaton, however Mother Nature decided it was time to do some gardening, and threw out a massive storm into Hungary, which put paid to even leaving the camp, let alone getting out on the water.

So it was a pretty dismal day spent at the camp, but as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. We went to the restaurant at the campground, and Jamie had the best steak he has had since leaving Australia, Natalie had a Beef Stroganoff to die for, Paige had a homemade citrus gelati and Declan had some pancakes filled with melted chocolate... so not everything is bad!!!
