This was the longest single day of the trip and to make it even more special the one with the most climbing. I ascended 2029m through the day and went over several mountains in the blistering heat. Considering how I felt going through Bulgaria I really was worried about this day. I even researched into tackling a ferry for part of it. I was backtracking for about 70km so I felt justified I could cheat a bit. I had no such luck. The only ferry that would have been good was no longer running.

I was up at 6:00 and ready to go at 6:25. I went to the catch the ferry to Ecebat and had to wait until 7:05 before it actually left. I did not start the bike day until 7:30. My plan was already behind schedule. I had to be pragmatic. This is how far I need to go, these are how many hills, this is the time until it becomes dark, this is how much time I have to stop and eat or stretch my legs. No real breaks, no naps, just do it.

This worked fine for me and I actually finished before I thought I would. One mountain was so hard. It seemed several times I was at the top only to go around a corner with another steep incline. I did see a few bikers on the side highways. I felt this was encouraging. They probably looked at me and thought, "why is that guy going the wrong direction - he will die on this hill".

At the end, of course I was tired and close to overheated, but strangely did not feel overwhelmed. Except my feet when I tried to walk from the hotel to the beach. The hotel is located on the beach so it was a 20 meter walk. A walk in which it felt like molten lava was squirting out of all the tiny veins in my feet. The place was very nice as was most places in the area. there were a lot of gated neighbourhoods and the place was set up to cater to tourists wanting to enjoy the beach and scuba dive in the Marmara Sea.

I went back to my room to enjoy the A/C for a few minutes but was so dizzy for not taking in enough calories I just fell asleep for 2 hours. Upon wakening I went to the hotel restaurant and loaded up on food. I burnt 9800 calories. Hard to even come close to eating that in a day.
