Yesterday was a horrible day as far as motivation. Today my mood was not much better but better and that is the main thing. I was able to start before 8:00 and get my ass on the bike and start the journey despite doubts and near complete exhaustion.

It was a bit cooler today - 34 degrees - and I had to get over two big mountains. Good thing is the biggest was first and I cleared it in the mourning before it was too hot. Right at the beginning of the trip I just passed by some ancient ruins lying on the side of the highway. It is a fascinating Roman ruins in the town of Debelt (Deultum was the Roman name).

The second and last mountain was where the border crossing was and I was near it by 2:00pm. However it took forever at the border because I had to buy my visa there. The guard did a bad job of explaining where I need to buy the visa. I went to several buildings and asked 4 different people. this included with the regular delays at the border (The Bulgarians like to take there time when you arrive and when you leave), lead to almost one hour delay.

Finally I was in Turkey the last country in the trip.  While cycling in the countryside of Northwestern Turkey I came across several horse drawn carts in a row and one had a saucy face little girl sticking her tongue out at me as I passed. I am not sure why but it lifted my spirits and I did not feel as tired. The cart in front of them had a baby donkey in it sleeping - from the heat I hope and not because he was sick.

Just as I reached the outskirts of Edirne there was a pack of stray dogs at a roundabout. There were about 12 of them and unlike in Romanian there were no little dogs - just big ass scary dogs. Most of them chased after me despite traffic on the road. I had to speed up considerably and went over some bumpy parts and had the carrier on the back of my bike pop off. Luckily I had outrun the pack by then.

Once I got to Edirne I had an energy drink and paprika chips. Not because I was craving them necessarily but because it reminded me of Cat and her extensive diet plan. Edirne itself was a pleasant surprise. there was a lot of activity and there were a lot of statues and fountains all over. Walking around was quite nice before heading back to the A/C of the hotel.
