Off to Bulgaria.
Today I biked from Bucharest to Silistra just on the Bulgarian side of the border near Calarasi. Although it was flat most of the way, and not extremely long, it was hard because of the heat. By the time I reached the border the heat was 41 degrees. That is not the humidex level - they do not do that here. It was humid. I am now missing those low teen days of Poland and Czech Republic. Maybe not the rain though.
When I reached the border the guard was very friendly and joked a bit. After about 5 minutes he told me there was a problem. Oh no what could it be. They never asked me anything after that and 20 minutes later gave my passport back and I was on my way.
Silistra definitely had a communist feel to it. I actually stayed on the outskirts in a place called Aydemir/ This place was very depressing and walking around did not feel completely safe. Some of the apartment buildings were in really bad shape. Lots of people hanging around the streets. Some had fires going??? It is still 36 degrees at 8:00 pm - what are you thinking. I took a few pics and headed back to my hotel room which had A/C. The hotel itself was quite nice considering the surroundings. I decided to try to recover from the heat and went to bed early.
