Arriving back on the mainland felt surreal. I remember walking on concrete and thinking 'this is weird'. And the sensation came from having just been purely walked on sand for days. Super weird. We went into Airlie to find a shower, no luck. So we ate instead.
Next destination – Andrew’s house, south of Mackay, at Sarina Beach. It was so lovely to see my old friend. I met Andrew when I lived in Tokyo in the late 90’s and we have remained friends over the years. However we hadn't seen each other since the birth of Amon, more than 7 years ago. So there was much catching up and reminiscing to be done. Andrew and Lee were gracious hosts who had treats for the kids and cooked us delicious meals including a lamb roast – yumbo! After two nights we said our goodbyes and promised not to let so many years pass before seeing each other again. Sayonara brother Andrew!
