Wednesday
2nd May

Back on the road - and it felt good. Our next stop was "The Pinnacles" at Nambung National Park. We spent the afternoon exploring the bizarrely shaped limestone formations in the dessert.  The late afternoon light made magnificent shadows and shapes on the ground.  And the low cloud coverage added to the shapes, light and patterns that were everywhere you looked. Then we drove through to a beach side town called Jurian Bay arriving at dusk. We slept well with the sound of waves crashing against the beach. In the morning we all got up with the sun and explored a massive sand dune system. It was amazing. Kids loved running and rolling down them and the colours of the morning changed and reflected on the sands, was unexpected and beautiful. This is what Astrid wrote about Jurian Bay –

Last night we pulled up just before dark and Amon and I played on the beach. We just thought it was your average beach but the next morning we went for a walk along the beach and found rock pools and a lagoon- it was crystal clear and blue. There were cliffs we looked over into the crystal clear water and we saw a huge browny reddy jellyfish, about as big as a football!- it looked amazing. Then when we climbed down again it was in the lagoon part we could go up so close we could touch it- dad touched its top but no one else dared to. We could see it had caught a small fish that was still flapping its fins. Also there were these HUUUUGE sand dunes that were practically mountains of sand- we climbed them and slid, ran and rolled down them for nearly half an hour. Scattered among the dunes were prints from lots of animals. Dad took some pictures-if they turn out we’ll post them and you can guess or research what might have made them. We think there was a wallaby, a kangaroo, an emu, a small bird, a possum, a dog, a human and a car. There is also a snake track but its really hard to see in the photo.
