Where I stayed
The trip's in full swing now. One night of camping down. No mountain lion attacks or scorpion stings, that I can remember anyway.
We move south about 100 miles on Highway 12 to Bryce Canyon through some crazy landscapes. The road goes over a pass with steep drop offs on both sides, I'm not talking deep ditches here. This is some wild driving. Sandy was freaking out....kids were on the Nintendo DS (don't even think they noticed).
One would not think that landscapes can change so drastically within such short distances, but Bryce Canyon fits something unique into a small area. The main canyon area is maybe 20 sq miles, filled with colors (mostly shades of orange) and eroded sandstone formations called hoodoos. Hoodoos are giant sandstone pillars carved away by water, wind and snow.
Camping at Bryce was good too. We stayed here two nights. Getting a little tired of the dirt though. Walking in dirt, breathing dirt, eating dirt, sleeping in dirt, it's time for a shower at our one night of luxury in Zion Canyon Lodge in Zion NP.
