Headed down to the Texas capital, Austin. Very nice city. Tour of the capitol building (yes, another one) followed by a stroll around the city. Interestingly, the legislature is only part time and will not meet at all next year. Austin is known for its live music scene but unlike a lot of other places that pretend to be (London, New York, etc) this place actually is overrun with live music, even on a week night; on the corners, in the supermarket, you name it. There is a strip south of town known as SoCo that is pretty cool and has a similar vibe to west hollywood but without the palm trees - some type of tree has returned however (have not seen many since leaving the coast).

The daily tourist attraction occurs at dusk when 1.5 million bats head out from beneath a bridge on the main street. Unfortunately, it actually occurs slightly before dusk and hence i only caught the end of it. But may be coming back this way on Friday so could yet see the whole thing. Next stop San Antonio. This weekend is a long weekend and am planning to attend a rodeo at a place called liberty hill.
