...Sunday was a wipeout for  me as I didn't want to stray too far from the 'bano', and spent much of the day laying in bed. Donna & Paul went out with the family to a BIG family dinner, with all the Aunts & Uncles, cousins etc. and they had a wonderful time. They brought back Luly's brother Carlos to tend to me as he is a doctor (cardiologist). He loaded me up with antibiotics fluids etc. and got me back on my feet for the next day. Doctors that make house calls!
On Monday we would be going for lunch to meet Paul's first family in Mexico - Ana & Ramon. Before that Zayra took us downtown to the market - it was HUGE. Zamora is not a tourist town so neither is the market, and it was a neat place for a stroll. Zayra was so wonderful taking us around, as I'm sure most 25 yr olds could think of lots of better things to do!
We also ran into Ana who we would see later and she told us that the Rotary (who are hosting Paul's exchange - along with his sponsor the Wiarton Rotary) were conducting an eyeglass clinic close by so Zayra took us over to meet them. Well, it seems it's not only the 'muchachas' (young girls) that love Paul, the older ones (and men) think he's pretty great too!
After the market we went past Paul's high school just as they were  ending classes and we saw everyone in their uniforms pouring out the doors. His first home was literally 100 metres from school. Paul would get out of bed at 7:25 and be at school for 1st class 7:30!
We had a nice afternoon with Ana and Ramon and Paul's big brother Ramon Jr., who Paul thinks is great! They've a beautiful house, and have also been very good to Paul and love him very much. There we also met Vera, another exchange student (from Germany), now living with Ana & Ramon. Paul teases her mercilessly, but she seems to enjoy it :) Ana also showed us the newspaper clipping of Paul in a Fashion Show for the Rotary to raise Christmas funds. uhhmmm, he never told us!
It is now early Tuesday morning (or at least it was when I started), and others are stirring upstairs. I feel stronger today and am looking forward to today's (and tomorrow's) excursion.
We are going to see the 'Sancturio des Mariposa Monarcas'. The Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, is home to millions of Monarchs who will soon depart for points north, but for now congregate here. We are taking Paul's friend Steve (from Vancouver) along with us. We'll spend the day there (it's about 3.5 hrs. from Zamora) and then stay at Los Azufres tonight. Cabins and hot springs, and return to Zamora via Morelia and Lake Patzcuaro on Wednesday.
Adios!
