We finally woke up to some blue skies which was nice - pity they hadn't been around the past couple of days. Hopefully it will mean it warms up a bit more too over the next few days. While we casually packed up today the kids went and played lego and on the bouncing pillow with some other kids. We got away about 9.30am and thankfully it was easier getting out of the park than it had been getting in. We stopped in at the Tolga wood works place which had some beautiful pieces. The one that amazed me the most was a pair of hollowed bloodstone boots - looked so life like. I found a table i fell in love with but a mere $7000 was a bit out of my range - wouldn't of fit in the van either! We then headed though Mareeba before coming down the very steep and very windy road to Port DOuglas. It was a speed limit of 30km/h recommendation and even though I trust Jeremy's driving - was still pretty hair raising at times. We had initially thought we would return down (or up as the case may be) that road to head to cooktown but after seeing it we think there is no way the van would make it up so may have to go up the other road and leave the van behind and stay in a hotel. See what we sort out.
This afternoon we went to Mossman River gorge which was a nice 2.5km walk along an easy track through rainforest near a river as the name would suggest. Very pretty walk and the kids enjoyed the Mr Whippy icecreams at the end of the walk too. Then stopped in at Port Douglas town (the caravan park we are staying at is about 8km south of the town). Kids had a play at the playground. Seems quite a yuppy little spot full of expensive looking hotels and lots of day spas! Pity I won't get to use one! Hopefully will get to the markets tomorrow. Until then - bye.
PS I forgot to take my camera so photos taken with Jeremys phone.
