I know, corny title but I couldn't resist.

This morning we took a 6-seater plane from Haines to Juneau on Wings of Alaska.  It was a bumpy flight as there were low clouds, but we had a great view!  Much more pleasant to take the 20 minute flight than the 4 1/2 hour ferry.

Once we got to Juneau we headed out to the Mendenhall Glacier.  We came here in 2010 on our cruise, but wanted to see it again and get up closer.  We walked to the Nugget Falls and around on some of the trails.  For part of the time we had big, fluffy snowflakes.  We really enjoyed it and spent a couple of hours there.

We headed to downtown Juneau for some late lunch.  On a Sunday in the off-season, there's not much open...a few bars/restaurants, no stores.  We drove by the capitol building and the governor's mansion.  We also drove out on Glacier Highway to Tee Harbor.

This is the end of our trip.  I have some recommendations if you head out this way.
First off, if you're in Haines stay at the Cliffhanger B & B.  Sue, the owner, is a welcoming hostess, makes great breakfasts, and the view is incredible.  We also really liked the Chilkat Bakery.  And, of course, go check out the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and stop by the American Bald Eagle Society Museum to support the foundation and hopefully see some of the birds they keep there.
