Hi Everyone!!!

This is the first chance I’ve had to get online in a few days,
and I wanted to say hi to my knitting crew all at once! Hi, ladies! If
my math is right, it should be about 1am Thursday morning over there
right now, so you guys just had knit night last night. I hope it was
fun!

While you were knitting, I was drinking amazing vietnamese coffee
(something I have been doing at least twice a day here so far), meeting
more of Binh’s family (there are so many of them!), and visiting the
grave of my father-in-law’s brother. He died in 1972 at age 34 (same as
Binh - sad) when his plane was shot down. The cemetery where he is
buried has been destroyed several times by the Viet Cong and his widow
has rebuilt it every time. It is the only remaining cemetery for
officers on the side of the South Vietnamese, buried before 1975. I’m
pretty sure there are none after 1975 though, because that is when the
communists took over and there was no way they’d sponsor a cemetery for
their enemies. My understanding of the details is a little fuzzy
through all the translation.

All in all, we have had a jam-packed first 36 hours, have met tons
of family, eaten great food, and went to the Louis Vuitton store.
Unfortunately, no amazing deals there. :(

Oh, and on the knitting front, I started a sock on the flight from
LA to Tokyo, and finished the heel before landing. I think it’s too
tight after the heel though, so I have put it aside awaiting a little
frogging and playing around with the stitch count. I am using my Sox
that Rock rare gems - It looks pretty awesome.

In the meantime, I cast on my Tangled Yoke this morning, yay! And I
made some serious progress on some socks in the car on the way to the
cemetery. Only an inch or 2 to go! It takes forever to get anywhere
here because of the 3 million (literally) mopeds everywhere, so sitting
in the car is a great time to knit.

Looking forward to seeing you all! I hope you all are well!!!
