In most parts of India, historically Indian family travel for

Better living conditions or migration or vagabond trips
Education related travel
Job or business related travel
Religious trips
Trip to one's native place
Travel due to emergency in the immediate family/relatives/friends
Honeymoon trip
Leisure trips or sight seeing trips

Apart from above half a dozen plus reasons, there could be more.  But generally leisure trips are not amid the top of the list, but generally hog aroung bottom of the list due to the life's priority.

For me and my wife, travel is a way of exploring the world, experiencing different places, cultures, food, living conditions, meet diverse people and try to understand as much aspects of their life as possible in the given time and financial resources.

Another important aspect of travel with family is traveling with one's kid and expose her to the larger world around her, enable her to be more tolerant, learn to deal about the uncertainities involved with travel and how to plan to ensure that uncertainities are minimal. We understand that once our daughter starts to attend senior classes at her school/college, she may not be able to travel with us and inturn make it not possible for us to travel.  Once her studies are over she would ofcourse get busy with her career and later on with family, life etc.

Hence best time to travel with one's kids is when they are between 4 to 12 years old. So we plan to travel as much as possible during these years. Till now we have been successful in this objective since last 5+ years by managing our work and monetory priorities. We have been fortunate till now with this aspect.

Anoter interesting fact of our annual winter trip has been the yearly increase in the travel budget. Our this year's trip would be our largest spending on leisure trips till now. I am sure in future, we will beat this year's record for sure.

We prefer to have "affordable luxury" theme during our trips,  prefer to see the world around us on road and experience as many sights as possible within given time. Offlate photography has been added as a reason for several trips. We have found that travel memories bring lots of nostaligia years down the line. The travelogues would help to remember most of the memories for years to come.

With internet and several travel forums being available, planning the trip has become easier in recent times.  For this year's trip, we have used below mentioned resources to estimate, plan, book the various aspects of the trip.

I bought the outlook traveller getaway guide for Rajasthan for RS 295/-  I see that this guide has been recently updated, It also comes with a map of Rajasthan, which i feel will be very useful when we are on the road.

I would like to really appreciate the contributions of my fellow traveller friends during the planning phase of this trip. Group travel always reduces the risk for one individual or family.

more details will follow...
