End of the line.

We woke up speeding our way through Washington state. Sleeping was better, but both of us were up by 530 (Noah earlier of course). Surprisingly, that was exactly when they started the breakfast service, so we were off to the dining car one last time. Actually got our own booth and enjoyed the scenery flying by.

Down the hall from us were two African-American brothers from Brooklyn (bros. in the flesh, not faith). They were on there way to Alaska for a fishing trip. Both Noah and I got a kick out of hearing them tell stories to each other and bicker like brothers do. Although they talked so much that we did have to close the door to our Roomette on occasion. They were the only neighbors we knew of, as the other people kept to themselves.

The majority of the people on the train were older retired couples. I would imagine their memories of the glory days of rail travel prompted their decision to come aboard. Many were first timers like ourselves and the vast majority of ones we talked to enjoyed the experience.

At the end, both Noah and I agreed that the timing was just right to hop off in Seattle. Two nights on the train gave us enough time to adjust to the bumps and swaying of the cars and the tight spaces. One more night would have ruined it. Would I do it again? I really think this was a once in a lifetime trip.

We conclude our cross-country trek where Starbucks started theirs -- the actual first Starbucks in Seattle. It was an amazing journey with a meandering course that went from Los Angeles to Chicago to Washington DC to Pittsburgh to Chicago to too many stops to list to Seattle. A great 11 days for this father and his son.

Now relaxation time in Victoria BC with the family. I am anticipating I will have a complete lack of anything worthwhile to write about.

Can't wait.
