Today was intended to be another pretty much hardcore mileage day...I only had 2 other objectives for the day: (1) Dip over into Oklahoma to grab a Geocache, and (2) During my planned pass-thru of Kansas City, have lunch at one of their famous BBQ establishments.

Staying in Ft Smith last night had the additional objective, besides being a logical stopping point along the way, of being a border town to Oklahoma, one of only 5 states in which I had yet to find a Geocache.  I chose the cache you see in the pictures because it's right over the border and is an interesting location as well as a quality container.  Now this was supposed to be a "quick grab", but needless to say I made it much harder than it should have been (it was hidden literally in plain sight), and 25 minutes and quite a bit of mud (from last night's rain) on my shoes later, plus having to find my reading glasses which I later discovered I had accidentally dropped while searching underneath the bridge, DUH, there it was.

Next, I hit the road for several hours of very nice driving along the western edge of the Ozarks through northwestern Arkansas and into Missouri.  I finally arrived at my Kansas City lunch target, the famous Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ, at around 1PM.  I had only sampled KC-style BBQ during my one other trip to KC several years ago, and now having had it twice (from two different restaurants), I can say that while it was good for what it was, I prefer Memphis-style dry-rubbed BBQ to KC's more smoke-and-sauce style.  To each their own.

I stopped in St. Joseph, MO, north of KC, for a half-hour snooze at around 3PM, then I proceeded through and along the western edge of Iowa for the next several hours, and then finally on to tonight's stopping point just over the SD border in North Sioux City.
