Thursday April 19th, Stage 75, Soccer Field Camp to Maun. 136km

This morning we found out about the Zig Zag murders. We stayed at that great little B&B on our rest days in Livingstone and departed four days ago on Sunday morning. The following day armed men entered, shot two people dead and wounded a third while robbing the place! Unbelieveable! The men are in custody. We are flabbergasted.

Rosalyn rode the truck today as she was exhausted and needed a day off. I cycled and was pleased to finally see some wildlife from the bike. Early this morning I saw a giraffe. Shortly after I saw three zebra cross the road.

I had a nice ride and rolled into town with John and Rob Rob. We stopped and had ice cream then beer before heading to the Sedia Hotel, our campground in Maun. John told me of his ATM misadventure along the way. The Botswana currency is the Pula. The posted rate is $1USD = 7.14Pula. John wanted about $100 in pula so went to the ATM to withdraw 800 pula. The ATM said the maximum withdrawal was 4000 pula and John withdrew this amount twice thinking he was getting 400 twice. Only afterwards did he realize that he had 8000 pula or about $1,100. I bought some pula from John as did several others in the group.

When I arrived at camp Rosalyn had set up the tent and we went to town to eat and pick up some groceries. I can use the rest day tomorrow!
