Hi everyone!
Sorry it's been a while. I was in Bangalore were I was too volunteer for a few month's but things didn't work out the way I expected; things seldom do here. So I headed up to Hampi. It's supposedly the World's largest open-air museum and it's very cool! It's a boulder strewn landscape of ancient temples and other bits. The only problem is that I felt sick the whole time I was there. You see when I was in Bangalore a woman I met on-line (IndiaMike.com) took me out for dinner on my Birthday (41st.) and I decided to have steak. Yeah, that's right steak in a Third World Country! Big mistake. I felt pretty awful for a week. But getting to meet Natasha was worth it. She's wonderful! She from Bengal State. That's where Calcutta is and let me tell you the Bengali's are really wonderful people and loads of fun too.
The day after my Birthday she invited me over to her house to meet her husband and another man from IndiaMike, his daughter and a bunch of her husbands friends, all in IT. She made a feast but I felt really sick so I couldn't eat much. What I did have was very wonderful and I felt very welcome too. The Bengali's just seem to be that way. Natasha reminded me of my friend Karen, so full of spunk. I loved her the moment I met her.
After the party I had to lay down for a while as I was feeling really ill. But at 8:00PM I had to leave because my train to Hampi was leaving. Not a lot of fun riding a train for 12 hour's and feeling sick the whole way.
Hampi was cool yet it was kind of a pain in the ass. The prices for a 'cell' with a cold water shower were just too much. I had to leave as soon as I could. So I took another 12 hour train ride to Vyjayawada and spent 38 hour's there. Most of it was spent in my hotel room. When I did go out I noticed that the hotel was near a lot of bar's and liquor store's. I've never seen so many drunk Indians. The place gave me the creeps. Finally my train to Puri was about to leave. I was going to try and go over and down to Kerala but everything was booked. Plus I'm staring to run short on my medication so I think it's almost time to go back to Thailand.
Oh great,a 15 hour train ride! I was starting to feel a little better, but then while on the train I picked up a nasty sinus infection that of course spread to my lungs! Anti-biotics seem to be working so far. When I arrived in Puri I wasn't really sure were I would stay. It's right on the Bay of Bengal but it seems to be safe. Probably because the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are in the way. The very First hotel I was taken too was great. So I got a nice cushy expensive room. Yeah, if you can call $15.00 a night expensive? Here in India it is, but I don't care. I wanted something nice with a hot water shower and a TV. Yes, I said a TV. I just want too stare at it for a few day's. Then I'll start traveling around the area.
Puri is in Orissa State, it's just south of Bengal State were Kolkata (Calcutta) is. well 12 hour's South of Calcutta. So far I really like it here. I'm close to water and the seafood is cheap and great. In a few day's when I'm feeling a little better I'll take the bus over to Konark to visit The Sun Temple. Then do a few more touristy things before I head to Kolkata.
Take care everyone. I hope you all had a nice Holiday season and a great New Year. Oh, also thanks too the many people that sent me E-cards. They really made me happy!!!
Now remember to be kind to one another and take care of yourself's.
