alessandro and i went to shiraz and the ancient city of persepolis, over 2500 years old, which alexander the great, in his infinite wisdom, burned to the gorund. we visited the tomb of darius the great.
all day on xmas eve,it snowed in shiraz.
i thought i was in for my first ever white christmas.
i awoke on xmas day to find blue skies and wet streets.
DOH!!
we bumped into alex from sweden on this wholly holy day and celebrated xmas night drinking illegal whiskey smoking cigarettes in our hotel room, which some friendly clothing shop blokes helped us get on to, all cloak-and-daggerlike.
wandering the streets of shiraz i discovered some of the wonders of irananian cuisine.... (see photos).
before leaving shiraz, on the way to the bus station, i went to the post office to post home, the gifts from the film makers, a water pipe i bought, and a couple of other things.
after an hour or so of wrapping, unwrapping, re-wrapping, form filling, duplicate filling, and finger painting, the post office fellas told me i can't post glass.
so the 2 kilogram glass bottom half of my brand new water pipe is now carefully wrapped up inside my backpack.
woo hoo!!!!
i think i'll carry it overland a few thousand kilometers and maybe try to send it again in china.
or should i just carry it all the way home for the novelty factor?
