We stayed at the walmart in Grande Prairie, AB which is just before the BC border, Thursday nght. The town was small but everyone is nice and good thing because I left my purse in the Starbucks for at least 30 minutes and it was still there, in tact when I returned to retrieve it(probably because I only have US money) but if that happened in Maryland...I'd be glad to get my ID back.
We had a problem while driving through Dawson Creek, BC...they decided to have a parade (not sure why) ON the Al-Can Highway...no-way to get by it so we parked the battle cruiser and joined them.
The parade was funny....the floats were more like advertisements and they threw candy (mostly) at the kids that were standing along the sides of the road with their open treat bags...it was better than Halloween because they didn't have to say trick or treat and dress up- people just threw the candy at them..do they have halloween here? I found out that Boxing Day is a Canada holiday where most citizens get the day off AFTER Christmas to take advantage of the after Christmas sales...seems backwards but if it works...
Back to the drive...
We arrive in Fort Nelson, BC and literally, the town may be populated by a few hundred...some people use ATV's to get around. They do have a grocery store and a few restaurants....even A&W...yummy! However, there is NOTHING to do as a visitor. I worked the whole weekend.
Basically, this is a passing-through town but people are nice. A Native-American wedding was having their reception here last night (Saturday) and the band played Margaritaville all night...
Yes, we are at a campground full of RV's...had we known we could have had a wedding reception at one of these our wedding may have been different....kidding.
Bummer, we had to pay a looney (Canada dollar) to shower for 5 minutes...the first of many paid showers, I'm sure.
We're hoping to be near Whitehorse, YT by Tuesday (the latest)....getting closer.
Ciao for now...

The parade you watched in Dawson Creek was for our annual Fall Fair Exhibition and Stampede. It may not have big fancy floats but the entries are local and support the community so we enjoy seeing them participate. And yes we have Halloween same time as you but throwing candy is just a tradition and the kids love it. Glad you got to enjoy the parade along your journey. I grew up in the City but moved here years ago and have to say that small communities don't offer everything but it is a pleasure to live in a place that your kids can still ride their bikes across town safely and violent crimes are not the norm. I hope you have a great trip up the Highway, travel safe!
