got the 6am bus to arequipa arrived in at 4 so was a long long jounrey with not mcuh leg room but very cheap indeeed and the views and countryside were amazing huge plains deserts and mountains very cool inddeeed
so here i am planning on doing doing a 3 day tour to the colca canyon and also a 2 day trip up the mitsi volcano overlooking arequipa before heading to boliva and isle del sol for xmas.........
so im back after trips up the misty volcano and colca canyon!
the misty hike started at 8am pick up from hostel in hte group were an irish guy called denis and 2 guys form melbourne andrew and ash.....driving to it it didnt look to bad at all but was told by everyone that it was tough and so so high 5850 metres to be precise but coming from cusco and the inca trail i thought i would cope ok how wrong i was cause it was without doubt the toughest physical thing ive ever done much harder than the inca trail and the marathon! starting at 10 at the base we hiked up and reached base camp about 4.......... i wasnt to bad but the 2 ozzies got really headaches and dizziness defo altuude sickness and andrew wasnt sure if hed be able to go on the next day....
the evening was spectalr though we were above the cloud line and could see far off peaks together with the sunset and red volcanic rock and ahs all around us it truly was like we were on another planet......
went to bed as soon as sun set pretty much which i guess was about 7 but i oculdnt get any sleep was so uncomfy and each time i dropped off i woke up gasping for air!
anyway at 1 in the pitch dark with our head lamp torch thingies on we set off up to the crater and summit
words cant describe how hard the next 6 and half hours were my legs were ok but i found it so hard to breath i really was quesing from breath like i had asthma lukily no headache like the other guys i think it was just the thin air that really got to me!
so finally we made it to the crater at about 730am the rish guy had already gone ahead and reached the summit but the guide looking at what a sorry shattered state we were all in didnt think we should go up to the top as it was another steeep 45 mins up there but when i saw the cross on top and deniis up there and thought of all that way wed come i was like NO come on guys we can do this and my weee moticational talk seemed to work nad we ignored our guide and i stormed up to the top totallly physched and focused the 2 ozies lagged behind a bit but stil made it
the feeling of jubilation i got when i got to the top was amazing and it was so worth it you could see right aorund the crater and the views were unblieveable i cant rememeber having that feeling of satisfaction at having achieved something tough well maybe the marathon for a long time i totalyy could see why no one tries it i mean we saw no other parties on the mountain coming up or back no wonder!
anyway the way done was such fun we basically run jumped skied down like a sea or ski slope of ash wow what fun it only took as a couple of hours to get down we were going so fast it was so cooooool as the pics show....
no rest for the wicked the next day was the colca canyon tour pick up 6am so i knew having had no sleep the night before i shouldnt go out but i had to i mean i had to celebrate getting to the top with my new friends! so we hit a restuarant on the plaza then a bar for lots of cheap rums an coke then deja vu where a band were playing guns and roses and bon jovi covers they were goood then turend into a nightclub and we danced the night away all though denis left ealry as he pulled i believe i pretty local girl....
