Where I stayed
The Newton House
On the way dooooown to Applecross, I spied a rainbow which was fetching. In the village itself, I stopped at the Inn and had some filtered coffee (which beats instant hands down) and I got to talking with the barmaid there who was studying in New Mexico, but home for the summer
In the afternoon I drove through the Glen Torridan, past Loch Maree, but in my opinion, neither held a candle to Glen Shiel from the day before. To each his/her own I guess. Once in Gairloch at about 4 PM, I started looking for lodging. I ended up securing a room (a double for 50 pounds) at the Newton House run by an incredibly kind and helpful lady named Di. Major recommendation to anyone planning to stay in Gairloch!!
After checking in, I drove on another single-track road out to the Rua Reidh Lighthouse, which is 13 miles from Gairloch, just after the stunning beach at Melvaig. There was one hair-raising moment en route when I encountered another vehicle driving the opposite way and there was absolutely no room for either of us to turn around, so the other car had to drive in reverse about twenty feet. Yikes! The lighthouse is dramatically situated fer sure, like ya know?!
After my lighthouse visit, I had a divine vegetarian lasagna at the Millcroft Hotel and then hit the sheets at about 11 PM.
