Korea is amazing... or maybe it's the 5 star hotel they've put me it.
So, to my surprise, but not utter disappointment, I'm not actually in Seoul. South Korea's airport is actually on it's own island called Incheon.
Everything is new here, when I first looked out the window of the plane I noticed that everything looks like it's under construction. There's no massive skyscrapers or hundreds of houses compressed together. There's lots of space everywhere. The guy next to me pointed out this amazing bridge which goes from Incheon to the mainland and spans across 5kms of ocean!!
So I've been here for 18 hours and it's pretty cool. There are heaps of people here like me for a layover. You can tell who we are because we're all wondering around the hotel looking lost and looking for the restaurant for dinner! At dinner yesterday I met a Swedish born New Zealander named Loloo. So we had dinner and breakfast together before she left this morning. Dinner, breakfast and lunch have all been provided by the airline and I was surprised by how amazing the meals have been. Breakfast so far has been the best! There was a buffet breakfast on one end of the restaurant and then pastries down the other. So far, the waffles have been the highlight for me!!!
Now I don't know if it's everywhere in Korea, or just at the hotel, but so far, there seems to be a lot of people everywhere to help you or show you what to do! When we walked into the lobby, there were 3 people to show us where to check in, people offering to take my bags etc, and at the meals, they were always walking around pouring more coffee or tea or drinks and taking your cutlery and getting you anything you need before you even realize you need it! One guy took the tissue that I'd spat my gum into....that was weird- but handy!!!
Ok... I'm going to be a girl here, but the room I'm staying in is amazing!!! It's perfect! And last night I had my first bath since the drought started in Australia! I'll tell you what though, I needed it! My head was pounding like no tomorrow from the flight and lack of sleep. It relaxed me right down and then I slept like a log!!! It's good because the time difference is one hour so nothing is out of wak yet. I'm really relaxed at the moment and it's weird because I thought I'd be really anxious about everything.
I even went for a walk and found an equivalent to Wal-Mart here called E-Mart. I'm surprised by how expensive everything here is. I think it's also because I'm near the airport everything is crazy expensive! Then I walked a bit and around the hotel and found this cool looking glass dome building which was opposite the hotel, so I thought I'd walk to it! Walking around I realized that there were no people around at all. Everyone is in a bus! Almost every vehicle here is a bus. Anyway, turns out, that dome is the departure airport...yay!!
I'll tell you what though, I'm certainly not looking forward to the next flight!!! 12 hours....eeeerrrrr my head hurts thinking about it!!!
Anyway, don't want to miss lunch!!!!
